“The Snapdragon 670 is the first 600 series processor to sport the Spectra 250 ISP”
Earlier this year in May, Qualcomm introduced its new 700 series Mobile Platform by launching the Snapdragon 710 SoC, which aims to bring flagship features to mid-range smartphones. Today, the company has added a new processor to its Snapdragon 600 series with the launch of the Snapdragon 670 Mobile Platform. The new SoC aims to provide superb performance and camera features for mid-range handsets.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 Mobile Platform focuses on AI, performance, camera, and multimedia, says the brand. The octa-core processor has two performance cores clocked at up to 2.0GHz, and six efficiency cores with a clock speed of up to 1.7GHz. The processor is paired with an Adreno 615 GPU, which allows it to delivers up to 25 percent faster graphics rendering as compared to the Snapdragon 660.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 processor gets a Hexagon 685 DSP. Thanks to the DSP, the SoC boasts efficient sensor management abilities, and is ideal for computing algorithms that make AI-powered apps. The Snapdragon 670 SoC has the third-gen AI Engine, which is designed to offer up to 1.8 percent higher AI performance than the previous generation. This engine has support for an extensive array of frameworks like Qualcomm Neural Processing SDK, Hexagon Neural Network, Caffe, Caffe2, TensorFlow, and ONNX.
As for imaging capabilities, the Snapdragon 670 processor features Qualcomm Spectra 250 ISP. The ISP offers noise reduction, image stabilisation, and active depth. The ISP supports up to 25-megapixel for single cameras and 16-megapixel dual cameras. The processor is capable of supporting full HD+ displays and Quick Charge 4+ fast charging technology. For connectivity, the SoC gets the X12 LTE modem, which offers download speeds of up to 600mbps and upload speeds of up to 150mbps.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 processor is available for smartphone manufacturers right away. The first commercial handsets with the new mobile platform are expected to be launched in the third quarter of the year.
